Welcome to my page

Hi my friends. I want to say that everything was going wrong just before starting our holidays. Medical problems, just little things. When it was better it was too late to leave so we haven't gone to Sweden this year. All the information I got from everyone, the books and cards I bought, it's all laying in a box, waiting for next year. I had a bad feeling the last months. Next year better.

Hi, I'm living in Belgium, outside of Mechelen. I'm married and have 2 children, both adult, but still at home. I love that but maybe it isn't for long time. My native language is Vlaams (Dutch). I'm trying pretty hard to upgrade my English. Soon I write more on this site.

Now this question:I would like to go on holiday this year to Sweden. Who has tips about places that should be visited (preferably not in big cities). I'd also like information concerning accommodations for disabled persons.

  • (Message to all members) CommunityOfSweden.com has gotten it's biggest update so far: Groups! Anyone can create a group and other members can then join this group and discuss the group's subject and upload relevant photos. A group can be about a city, an activity, perhaps a swedish musician or something else. You decide! You'll find the new Groups section in the top navigation. Check it out and enjoy! :)

  • Hi Marleen, I saw you stopped by my page, so I thought I'd drop a note before I shut down for ten or eleven days. I'm sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip to Sweden. That would be so-o-o-o-o disappointing. Our trip to Vancouver, Nanaimo, and Victoria was originally scheduled for early May, but has been postponed 2 or 3 times due to my Bronchitis lasting so long. At least we will still be able to go. We will visit our youngest son and his wife in Vancouver for a couple of days, then take the ferry to Vancouver Island and visit a friend of Gord's (for about 64 yrs) in Nanaimo. Before going on to Victoria, I will be getting together with Karin Anderson, Gittan, and Roxanne (from CoS)for a picnic. We are all excited about meeting each other and spending a few hours together at a lovely beach on a lake, with a spring bubbling up nearby. Then Gord and I will drive to the Victoria area to visit our eldest son and his family for a few days. Then catch the ferry from Victoria and start out for home (for a rest :-) ].

  • I meant to say that I noticed the hand cranks after you told me what it was.

  • Thank you very much for your reply Marleen. Cerebral refers to the brain and palsy I guess refers to the muscle problems. The damage to the brain cells usually occurs around birth. It may result from the umbilical cord getting wrapped around the infants neck during birth, cutting off oxygen to the brain. The child may be mildly to seriously affected. Movement is affected: walking is jerky, arm movements can be jerky, speech is affected, intelligence may be affected. They often require some form of assisted walking or a medical scooter. Sharon is thinking of getting an adult tricycle. I find her speech difficult to understand except when she is just beginning to talk. Her mouth seems to fill with saliva. However, she sings in one of the worship leading teams, and seems to be alright.

  • Hi Marleen, I have a friend with Cerebral Palsy, and the bike you are riding interested me on her behalf. She was looking at a large adult tricycle at the bike shop recently, but yours looks more compact. Is it motorized? Are they very expensive? Have you made arrangements for your holiday in Sweden yet? I'm sure you will have a great time. Our buses are equipped for handicapped riders and all buildings are required to be accessible, so I'm sure Sweden is also. They seem to be quite advanced in such things. Have a great time.

  • Beautiful Marleen...Thank you for your email..I just read it today...My heart goes out to you..You are a survivor and a true icon for the human spirit..I am leaving this site soon..but i would love to hear from you via email...You are an inspiration to all of us..I am blessed to have you as my friend..Namaste & Love Gittan
