Welcome to my page

Hi, I am a 47 year old Englishman living in South Wales for the last 20 years. I have had an obsession with Sweden since I was a teenager, and my first car was a Saab 95! I finally made it to sweden in 2001, a couple of months before my 40th birthday.

I have returned four times since then, and I adore the place, the people, the culture and the space. My job is in conservation and the environment, and the Scandinavian countries seem to be so far ahead of us in the UK, so I am constantly learning interesting things on my visits. I love that the Swedes are such an outdoor people.

  • I live in Jutland not that far from Sweden - approx. 4 hours drive to Copenhagen! and the Øresundsbroen, but going by plane is easier!! especially going to Stockholm!

  • I like your homemade Dala horse! It is a bit chubby, but probably only reflects the looks of quite a lot of people in the real world nowadays! Not only the carving process but also the decorating bit must be difficult.

  • Important information: the problem with uploading new profile photos should now be fixed. We're very sorry for the frustration this has caused. The problem occured together with an update of the CoS dynamic page titles.

  • (Message to all members) CommunityOfSweden.com has gotten it's biggest update so far: Groups! Anyone can create a group and other members can then join this group and discuss the group's subject and upload relevant photos. A group can be about a city, an activity, perhaps a swedish musician or something else. You decide! You'll find the new Groups section in the top navigation. Check it out and enjoy! :)

  • Hej! yes I played oboe and saxophone. I wanted to study it in college but sort of ended up changing my major a bit. I still watch educational shows about the history of music and listen to it all day. I guess people are like that in the U.S. - about the parks. I can't believe more is not being done to preserve the parks and clean up the world. So sad. We are working this weekend and it is beautiful weather. Nice for a change. Less humid. I took a very long walk early this morning. No people are up and it is so peaceful. Hope you are doing well. Any more wooden creatures planned?

  • I wouldn't say a hippo - just a Dala horse with a very big appetitie. If I tried to make one it would not look like a horse. It is so sad that I am unable to make things. I actually used to make my own oboe reeds which is hard. I had to scrape down the reed on both sides to a very thin condition without ruining it. Now if I could do that I should be able to make something. I would think being a Park Ranger must be fascinating. I wonder about dealing with some of the people or are most respectful?
