I like it!

I don't think there's a person alive in this, or any other world, who does not like the smell of freshly baked bread. I mean buying a fresh bread from a bakery, when it's still warm, is one thing. However, waking up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread, is a whole other thing. This seems to be the story of my life.

My fiance does not just love to bake. She loooooooooooves to bake. All breads. All shapes. All sizes. One made from this kind of flour, the other from another type. Making her own sour dough, or her own wild yeast. I have to be honest. I really don't get it. I don't mind going to buy a fresh bread from the local baker, as long as I don't have to bake one. She thinks in completely the opposite way. It's because she loooooooooooves to bake.

The photographs are a collection of the breads I've been having in the mornings over the past 3 weeks, which I think, makes me the luckiest man in the world. Being able to wake up most mornings with that smell throughout the house is fantastic. I'm not really good with the names of the breads or what's in them, and it's all in Swedish in any case. All I know is that they taste great, and I don't have to walk to far to enjoy them.

My favourite bread is the second photo with the knife. That bread does not last very long in this house. It's soft on the inside with a hardish crust. Sometimes she adds those black seeds for a different taste. Number two would be the long french baguette looking breads in photo four. They're not the same type as french baguettes, because they're heavier in weight and more filling. Then there's the one with the cracked flour on top in photo one. Absolutely fantastic with butter and a bit of orange marmelade.

For her birthday the family put some money together to send her and her friend, who also loooooooooooves to bake, to Järna, for a two day baking course. The course is offered by the Swedish company Saltå Kvarn, and she's going to learn to make other types of breads and how to make different kinds of sour dough. Can life get any better?

This is my favourite bread in the world, baked by my fiance. It does not last long in our house.

  • yey!
  • Love the story....you are indeed a lucky man! Wish I knew how to bake like that. My grandmother use to bake breads and cookies and the smell was marvelous! Add the smell of the coffee pot on the stove and you had one happy granddaughter!
  • Wow you are indeed a lucky man! Great story, makes me want to bake some bread.
  • Yummy!! Can I come over for a bite of those delicious looking bread. Perhaps a baking lesson from your fiancee- however, come to think of it- I would rather savor the already baked goodies. I truly dislike anything to do with the kitchen. Thank God I was not born in the 1800s. Great photos!

There are three kinds of stories:
Travel: these are all about the holidays and travel memories. Recommendations: these could be about the best shopping places in Stockholm or the must see places in the Swedish Lapland. Anything: these can be stories about Swedish midsummer celebrations, food or thoughts in general.
