Nakenfis
This summer memory from 2006 will put a smile on your face. It is so honest and straight forward as it can be from my 5 year old daughter Nevada mouth.
I took my Canadian family for a visit to Sweden, it was a beautiful hot summer day and we decided to go to the lake for a picnic and a swim. We where joined by my sister Rosa and mother Barbro. The visit was in Falun and the lake is called Rammen.
To add to this story you have to know and understand the true meaning of Swedish culture. As we are enjoying our picnic and the beating sun, all of a sudden from no where this older man is walking out into the water butt naked, my kids that are 5 and 8 also true Canadians, didn’t know what to do or say. The look on their faces where chocked, little did they know that in Sweden nudity is not something to be a shamed of, it is natural but in Canada that would have been considered major inappropriate.
Mommy there is a naked man going to swim, comes from my 5 year old. And I try to explain to her that in Sweden that is ok, we are not as a shamed by nudity and it is natural thing.
5 minutes after that I tried to explain the differences about nudity in the two country’s she starts to pull off all her clothes and throws herself into the water butt naked. So now I am like a real Swede she says with a Big smile on her face.
Yes I say, you are a nakenfis, since then they both never wore bathing suits while swimming back home in Sweden…but here in Canada they still do.
That’s a culture clash for you!!
