I recommend all of You, Swedes and foreigners, to take a couple of days in summer to go trekking in the nort of Sweden.
It is absolutely one of the best things You can do - You relax and work hard on the same time and the landscape is absolutely stunning. It can also be quite thrilling if You decide to climbe all the way up to the peak of for example Helags or Sylarna.
I have done both and the pictures related to this story is from this summer when we climbed the Helags peak, 1797 meters above the ocean. The highest Swedish peak south of the Arctic Circle.
It is located in Härjedalen, close to the boarder to Jämtland.
This was in the beginning of August, which I would consider a very good time to be mountain trekking in this part of the country. If You go later it can get very cold.
Don´t worry too much about moscitos. There are a lot of them in the north, but once You are above the tree limit there are hardly any moscitos at all.
I have started from Storulvån (north of Sylarna) and from Ramundberget (south of Helags) and can really recommend both. There are several mountain stations where You can sleep, buy complimentary food, take a shower, cook, etc.
This is really for everyone...some take the easy way out. They sleep and eat at the mountain stations, carry as little baggage as possible and make daytrips between the stations.
I prefer the more Spartan way though which, if You are in good physical shape, will give You the ultimate experience. Bring Your own tent, carry all Your food and You are free to make Your own route. The good thing is that You don´t have to carry around a lot of water. There are many natural springs where You can fill up Your bottle with fantastic water. Just make sure that there is enough flow in the water.

Take care
