I like it!

Right!  The weddings are done and dusted now. Sooo.... we're getting ready for our honeymoon. We booked 5 nights in a 5* hotel in Stockholm's city centre around Easter. Special deal, so we're happy! More spending money for the trip! ;-)

We've been busy browsing through tourist websites (thanks visitsweden), travel guides, recommendations on travel websites and all sorts of stuff we can find. We're really excited about this trip.

Although I've had the Teach Yourself: Swedish Conversations CD for half a year, I've only this month started to listen to them in the car. Very handy and easy to remember. Just bought a Teach Yourself the 'Basics' book cheap on e*ay, and that in addition should be helpful.

Am also listening to Swedish music in the car every day. Want to 'spot' words that I've learnt! Love it! Even if I don't know the words it's fun to sing along while overtaking other cars. Nobody can hear me!

I want to be able to at least speak the basics when I'm there. It's just polite to say hello and thank you in the language of the country you visit. If it will be as much as ordering a drink, I'll be chuffed!

So, we're busy making plans for our 5 days. We definitely want to see Skansen, the Royal Palace, Gamla Stan (and I know the tourist traps in old towns from my home town), the shops, maybe a trip on the water or some island hopping if that's available at Easter. The Vasa and Nordiska Museet is also on the list and if we have time, I'd love to squeeze in Medeltids Museet (which is apparently located in another museum).

But these are just plans - in the end we'll just go with the flow. Can't wait to try local cuisine, fish and especially those cinammon buns! :-)

Can't wait!

Hej då!

  • I hope you did it all!
  • Hi Stephanie,
You'll probably be off on your honeymoon before you could get it unless it's available in a major bookstore, but "Transparent Language" have excellent interactive language learning material for computers, I pods, and printed as well (I think). I'm hoping that being a part of the Community of Sweden will spur me on to 'interacting' with mine.
Have a wonderful trip. By the way, a museum or art gallery is a great place for a first date. Where better to develop a common interest which you already had or you wouldn't have chosen to go there.
    All the best,
    Deana
  • Thanks to all of you for your congrats. Married 3 months today! Very exciting still. :-)
Gittan, Skansen is on my list of definite places to see. There is a similar museum in South Wales where we went on our first date to (unusual, I know but hey - that's us!). Can't wait to see it.
  • Congratulations to the two of you :-)) You will have a great time..by Easter the weather should be warmer...the beauty is to take the ferry from the city out to Skansen :-)) Enjoy yourselves...hugs

There are three kinds of stories:
Travel: these are all about the holidays and travel memories. Recommendations: these could be about the best shopping places in Stockholm or the must see places in the Swedish Lapland. Anything: these can be stories about Swedish midsummer celebrations, food or thoughts in general.
