I like it!

Last week it was sportlov, sports holiday, in Stockholm. We went up to Åre in Jämtland, I have a friend who lives there (lucky us)!

We usually try to do something else than skiing one day. This year we tried horse back riding on Icelandic horses. It was wonderful! The girls thought it was the best day that week. And I must admit that though I´m a little afraid of horses, it was fantastic. We came there 10 in the morning. First we went out in the field to choose the horses. After that we took them inside the stable and prepared them for the ride. We didn´t use saddles, only blankets and the thing that you put your feet in (don´t know the name in English J).

All this preparing took about an hour. Then we went out riding in the snow. It was really amazing. The horses slipped all the time and in the beginning I was afraid, but after a while I got used to it. After an hour it was fika (coffee break) and then we rode for another hour. It was only our family and the leader, Rosemarie, which of course was very nice. We got full attention! She has a website, unfortunately not in English: http://www.annagarden.se/

If you ever get the chance to ride on Icelandic horses in winter time, try it!

The site is not in english :-( http://www.annagarden.se/

When we took a coffe break the horses almost sleptFrida got the oldest and maybe the nicest horse

  • I read your full article with my excited heart and enjoyable feelings.Lucky you and your family! They are icelandhorses. How cute they are! With your description,I really eager to try horseback riding in the snow. Thanks for your wonderful story!
  • I'm like you, with just a tinge of fear of horses. I can ride provided the horse is well "duded" (trained to follow the horse in front and not to do anything else). It's a great way to get around and see the country. You certainly couldn't walk that far by yourself and you wouldn't have the extra elevation of being on the horses back.
  • Hej Pernilla..it sounds like a winter wonderland...beautiful pictures and amazing experience..i did go on a tour once with these kind of horses and they are very strong and determine horses..thank you for sharing....
  • Lovely! You are brave - but I bet your pony took care of you!

There are three kinds of stories:
Travel: these are all about the holidays and travel memories. Recommendations: these could be about the best shopping places in Stockholm or the must see places in the Swedish Lapland. Anything: these can be stories about Swedish midsummer celebrations, food or thoughts in general.
