I like it!
Before my visit to Sweden i learned of a Swedish practice, eating Surströmming. Surströmming is fermented fish(Herring) stored in cans which when opened produces a very foul odor which might make some people feel nauseated. This would explain why a lot of people who choose to eat this dish do so outdoors. Surströmming is usually eaten with tunnbröd (flat bread) and people usually drink milk or beer when eating it. I have also learned that the practice of eating Surströmming is seen mainly in the north of Sweden and a lot of the younger generation do not care about the dish much. Notwithstanding, i took the opportunity to ask a lot of people about it during my trip and sought their opinions about surströmming. After conversing with a good amount of people  i learned that surströmming has an acquired taste and some people fall in love with it after the first try. I was not bold enough to attempt eating surströmming during my trip, but maybe next time i might just show enough courage and try it. Story about Surströmming

  • Hej! Nice to read this story of yours. I might one day give it a try. At least I really love to eat one of the cheeses from Holland that most people disgust (forgot the name). Now I come to think of it, that cheese I do miss, living in Sweden. I Cann't say I miss too much of my original country, Holland. Johanna
  • it rotten fish.
  • yes,..the reason you open it outside and eat it outside is that the smell doesnt go away, its "sour herring" its old fish. how do you think a can of very old sour fish smells?

There are three kinds of stories:
Travel: these are all about the holidays and travel memories. Recommendations: these could be about the best shopping places in Stockholm or the must see places in the Swedish Lapland. Anything: these can be stories about Swedish midsummer celebrations, food or thoughts in general.
