Dalsland in West Sweden is the setting for Sweden’s largest canoe and kayak competion, the Dalsland Canoe Marathon.
Starting from an idyllic location at Baldernäs manor on the shores of Laxsjön (”Salmon Lake”) , the adult course runs 55km through one of Sweden’s best canoeing areas, finishing at the small town of Bengtsfors. There is also a shorter course (20.7km) for junior competitors aged 12-18.
Competitors have a choice of competiting in canoes or kayaks, entering in one of several male or female classes (K1 elite, K1, K2 or Canadian Canoe). With the emphasis as much on enjoyment as on winning, the event attracts a wide range of participants from serious paddlers to those there for the sheer fun of it!
The 2010 marathon will take place on 14th August 2010. Almost 1000 paddlers took part in the Dalsland Canoe Marathon in 2009, and with the popularity of the event growing each year, there are high hopes for 2010.
