If you want to experience the Swedish summer: this is it!!!
In the heart of Sweden, but easy to reach by train just 2.5 hours from Stockholm, less by direct train from Arlanda. Accommodation is good, but book early!
Delsbo spelmansstämma is organised every summer, on the first Sunday in July, and is preceded by a music&dance night on the Saturday immediately before.

Delsbo spelmansstämma (fiddlers' festival) is the oldest fiddlers' festival in Sweden. The photo above is from its 100 years anniversary, in 2008, when a traditional wedding was also held. The bride and grum rode on horseback from church into the festival area at forngården. You can find more photos on www.forngarden.se.
My first spelmansstämma in Delsbo was in 1971, when the fiddlers Skäggmanslaget were famous and people came from everywhere to listen to them. The main purpose of this kind of festival is for fiddlers and musicians using other traditional instruments to meet and learn new tunes form each other. This is called buskspel (bushplay), because musicians gather in small groups everywhere around 'in the bush' in the festival compound. Dance continues through the night. Between 3000 and 10000 have been meeting up for this event.
