This past holiday season, my boyfriend came here to the US to spend time with my family. I had seen DVD's of his fmaily celebrations with their singing and dancing around the Christmas tree so I knew that he would, hopefully, take my boisterous ralatives in stride!
On Christmas Eve, we crammed into my mother's house with 40 of my closest relatives to eat our traditional Polish fare. My mom is Polish so we have kishka and keilbasa every Christmas Eve. Alex joined right in with the singing of the Carols! But I do think he was a bit overwhelmed at the presents my family gave him and the amount of food we ate!
The next day, Christmas Day, we went to my sister's home for dinner and more activities. He was absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of food she served. At one point he said "this is like some crazy banquet where they make you eat until you die!" Haha! Later, we played Charades. I thought that he would be nervous about this but he jumped right in and led his team to victory over mine! Then - we ate some more.
Alex thinks the US is the land of ENORMOUS portions of food and he' s right. When I am in Stockholm I lose weight though I am eating well. When he comes here, he always gains! I do hope that next Christmas I will be in Stockholm with my Swedish family. Maybe even in my own little home too!
