Today I left my wallet at home. You don´t realise until it happens how obstructed you get (and how much you shop in a day...).
In the afternoon, after a press meeting outside the office, I had to take a taxi with 2 boxes filled with printed guides and one, quite heavy paper bag. A trip with the underground was totally excepted. Just when everything was packed in the taxi, I remembered that I had no money or credit card at all. Well, I had 40 kronor borrowed from a colleague, but that does not get you very far.
"No worries", the taxi driver said, "it happens all the time. Let me just give you a note with my bank account number and you can pay me afterwards." So now I just did over the Internet - including a rather good tip.
I spoke to a friend from Holland tonight and she said "that only happens in Sweden!". Well, I don´t know, this taxi driver had a very positive focus and stated that trust and friendlyness is more important than money. But offering the same service many times before, he had only been defrauded once. I really, really hope it stays with that, too. Is this particularly Swedish? What do you think?
He surely made my day, anyway!
