Last week saw me and a friend travel down to Stockholm. I had never really been to Stockholm before other than travelling through, so this was a great opportunity to explore the city. We got the bus down, which was good value for money when considering the price of comparable train fares. It was an early and bleary start but the bus was comfortable.
We arrived at Central Station and the adventure began. We had a quick look around and tried to get ou bearings with the help of numerous free maps that can be found. The 24hour train/bus/ferry tickets are definitely worth the 100:- each.
We went to Skansen. This was my first visit. I think i was starting to get a bit tired by now and my feet were certainly starting to ache! Saw some baby brown bear cubs which were sooo cute. I would definitely like to go back there again with more time and better weather!
Getting around on the tunnelbanna, local trains, busses etc... was fairly simply especially once you knew which platform they were going from. We did have a few moments of confusion but with the frequency of these services it was not a problem.
I actually booked th hotel by mistake initially but what a great find! The Talk hotel is about 9minutes outside of the center. It was easy to get to, the rooms were great (especially the bathroom), the breakfast more than sufficient and i thought the price of 800:- for two with breakfast was more than reasonable.
On the Saturday we wandered back into Stockholm. Unfortunately the weather was awful - which is more than typical when its Pride parade day! I loved Gammal Stan but we also found a nice coffee place elsewhere but i can't remember the name! We stumbled over the Parade after lunch and stayed and watched it for about two hours. The atmosphere was relaxed, colourful and fun. Everyone looked as if they were having a great time despite the weather!
